Jen I Kress, PsyD

Clinical Psychologist

Professional Training Director

People often fear that if others truly know them at the deepest level, they will be rejected, judged or pitied. I have found that the truth is to know people deeply is also to have compassion for them. And miraculously, being deeply known is healing.

During adolescence I realized that exploring my own motivations, fears, and wishes helped me more accurately understand my own strengths and needs and enabled me to see myself with pride, humor, and confidence. I found that coming to deeply understand others was not only fascinating, but also an enriching and profound way to connect with them.

Therapy is a unique chance to honor and understand the strengths and challenges of your personal history, and to identify how that history impacts your current view of the world. If you feel limited or scarred by experiences in your past, therapy can be revolutionary. I have seen the amazing power of human resilience in my work as a psychologist specializing in trauma, and I am constantly reminded that we all have the power to overcome past hurts through authentic, boundaried, compassionate relationships. In this way, we prove to ourselves that we have the power to keep ourselves safe, and that the past does not have to repeat itself or limit our potential.

I have also found a passion in working with clients facing issues related to women’s empowerment. This specialty allows for a broad understanding of the psychological, interpersonal, and societal factors which contribute to the experiences unique to women. Issues of consent, caretaking, guilt, self-esteem, and intersectionality are often relevant topics in my work related to women’s empowerment.

I strive to help my clients feel welcomed and understood. Please reach out to me if you would like to begin therapy, or if you have questions. I can be reached at
